Declaration for anti-discrimination legislation and a fair migration policy in the council of Europe countries
Strasbourg, 10 - 13 October 2000

Concerned organisations in the field of equal treatment, especially anti-racism in the European Union, welcome the initiative of the European Union bodies to pave the way for legal measures in the fight against racism. The EU institutions, in the context of Title IV, are preparing further measures on migration and asylum. We hope that the spirit of these measures will lead to fair and non-discriminatory policies in the EU member countries.

The ongoing Regional Conference for the preparation of the World Conference against Racism is bringing together 41 member countries of the Council of Europe as well as observer countries from around the world, all of which are confronted with the phenomenon of racism, to discuss regional issues related to racism and equal opportunities.

The European Network against Racism calls upon the member countries of the Council of Europe to exchange experience in order to:

On the occasion of the regional conference "All different - all equal: from principle to practice", the European contribution to the World Conference against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, we call on all participants to support this declaration.
