Since the beginning of the 90's there is a real european awareness. European mass-media have an essential impact on the perception by the public opinion on etnical minorities and immigrants.

The stakes are : the promotion on a basis of diversity and equality of the image of black people and migrants of Europe; reconfirm and ensure the right of access to the media of ethnical and cultural minorities:

Here for our readers a general view of few interesting websites of Europe :

On the site of the Council of Europe you can find Recommandation 1277 (1995) relating to migrants ; etnical minorities and media

The International Federation of Journalists has integrated the question of racism and media in its workingprogram. Since May this year the IFJ promotes tolerance in journalism with a Prize of tolerance supported by the Council of Europe and the European Committee. The antiracist projects of the IFJ are developed by their Working Group International Media against Racism and xenofobia (IMRAX) . This working group is supported by european organisations like the National Union of Journalists of Great Britain and Ireland (NUJ) and its constituent body, The Black Members' Council (BMC);; the Ethnicity and Social Policy Research Unit (ESPR) of the University of Bradford; and the Working Group Migrants & The Media of the Netherlands Association of Journalists (NVJ). L'IMRAX presents its activities on the site Diversity-Online (www.diversity-online.org) co-sponsored by the European Union.

Diversity-Online is a member of the mlticultural international project Multicultural SkyScraper (www.multicultural.net/), a real digital turntable that offers global acces to dozens of up-to-date sites and running projects. Absolutely a must !

At the site of the European Committee against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) you can find the document of orientation of the working group Information, Communication and Media of the conference written by Mr. Konstanty Gebert, chief editor of the Monthly Midrasz (www.ecri.coe.int/fr/07/01/Euroconf%20(2000)3%20fr.pdf).
