All persons, Lebanese or foreigners, are equal before criminal courts, according to the criminal procedure law. Lebanon has established a human rights section within the Directorate of the Internal Police Force. This section is supposed to protect human rights among security staff, raise awareness, protect human rights, prepare draft laws and by-laws in line with human rights, educate and document all that is related to human rights, conduct research on specific cases related to human rights, coordinate with grassroot level organization, regional and international on human rights issues, create a data base on human rights in the country.
