Extracts from ECRI's third report (adopted in June 2006):
The Slovenian authorities have strengthened the legal framework against racial discrimination, through the adoption of primary anti-discrimination legislation covering different areas of life. The Human Rights Ombudsman has continued to provide invaluable support to members of minority groups. However, the Roma need special support in order to enjoy equal opportunities with the rest of the Slovenian population. The increased use of racist, xenophobic and otherwise intolerant discourse in Slovenian politics hampers efforts to improve the situation for all minority groups.
